KCS Run Club Finishes 2nd in “Fittest School Challenge”

    January 29, 2021 //  by Chase Caples

In January of 2020, several Elementary students, along with Mrs. Lawson (2nd grade) and Mrs. Williams (first grade), formed a “Run Club” for K – 5 students. The club entered to compete in the Covenant Kids Run.

The Covenant Kids Run is a program created to encourage kids to lead healthier and more active lifestyles. The children that participate in the run would run a total of 25 miles leading up to the race. On race day, they would meet in-person to run the final mile together, totaling the distance of a full marathon, which is 26.2 miles.

The run was originally scheduled for April 2020 but, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed and eventually went virtual. Up until Knoxville Christian School’s brief school closure in March and April of 2020, the Run Club would meet twice a week to log their miles, with the option to run or walk. When school closed down after Spring Break last year, students continued logging their own miles at home.

In addition to the student’s efforts to get “fit” at home, they registered for the “Fittest School Challenge.” Schools all across the area were ranked in the “Fittest School Challenge” based on their overall participation and categorized based on school enrollment size. Knoxville Christian School was placed in the small school category with many other schools in the area – a category they ended up placing 2nd in! Not only was the Knoxville Christian Run Club awarded a plaque for ending up in 2nd place, they were also presented with a check for $750 to go toward KCS’ Physical Education program! Way to go! Elementary School

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

    Proverbs 22:6

As believers in Christ, our elementary teachers are excited about teaching. They are interested in their students’ spiritual and academic as well as social and emotional growth as they lead by example, our teachers’ desire is to help their students reach their full potential in order to use their strengths and talents in a Godly manner.

    Reading

With our Bob Jones University Reading curriculum being implemented, you can rest assured that your child has access to one of the top-level reading curriculums available. Your child’s reading skills are crucial to their success in school as those skills will allow them to access the breadth of the curriculum, which improves both communication and language skills.

    Spelling

Just like with Reading, your child’s spelling skills are very important to their overall success rate in school. At Knoxville Christian, we strive to improve the child’s reading ability through spelling instruction.

    Math

Math introduces children to various concepts and critical thinking strategies that are essential to the child’s educational journey and even beyond their time spent in education.

    Bible

    Bible instruction

    Spanish

Being taught Spanish, or a foreign language of any kind, at a young age can help a child succeed throughout his or her lifetime. Linguistic skills will teach your child not only how to communicate with other cultures but also to learn about the importance of other cultures in our world today.

    Art/Music

Art and music are both very important steps to developing creative skills. Through art and music, children are able to fully express themselves, as well.

    Physical Education

Physical education at an early age helps children to develop necessary motor skills and coordination, as well as to improve the overall health of the child.

    Early Learning Center

18 Months Through 4 Years Old

Knoxville Christian School is operated in compliance with the standards for day care centers serving preschool children as required by the Tennessee Department of Education. KCS Early Learning Center offers classes for children ages 18 months through 4 years old. Our student/teacher ratio will not exceed the number of students allowed by the Tennessee State guidelines. Knoxville Christian School is a non-profit, non-denominational, interracial and non-political institution. The school is governed by a self perpetuating Board of Directors, each of whom are members of the Church of Christ.

For more information, please contact us at [email protected] or call (865) 966-7060.

    Individualized Care

Children are viewed as unique individuals. The teacher focuses on teaching each child according to his or her own strengths. Children are not labeled according to their ability, and children learn at their own rate.

    Cooperative Learning

Children are more likely to cooperate than compete. The spirit of cooperation, kindness, and caring makes it possible for children to help each other as individuals not just view each other as competitors.

    Future Leaders

Older children have the opportunity to serve as mentors and to take on leadership roles.

    A Family of Learners

Children develop a sense of family with their classmates. They become a “family of learners” who support and care for each other.

    Hours

Class begins at 8:00am and dismissal is at 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. Children may enter their classroom as early as 7:40am.

    Tuition & Fees

Financial concerns should initially be addressed with the Business Manager, Mrs. Donna Carter. Contact information by phone is 865-966-7060. Her email is [email protected].

The 2023-2024 tuition amounts follow depending on the school schedule selected:

5 Half Days (Monday -Friday) 8:00am to noon = $6,650 per year
    3 Full Days (M-W-F) 8:00am to 3:00pm = $6,650 per year
    3 Half Days (M-W-F) 8:00am to noon = $6,000 per year

    COVID-19 Information

Our school has implemented enhanced procedures to limit the spread of COVID-19 and are frequently communicating with families and staff to convey the enhanced measures in place. Depending on the circumstances and guidance by local and state officials, enhanced procedures above normal health and safety protocols may include:

    • Limiting the people who enter the building to current staff members and enrolled families only.
    • Temperature checks for children and staff.
    • External drop-off and pick-up of children.
    • Increased frequency of hand washing.
    • Increased sanitation of frequently touched surfaces and toys.

    Ways to Give

We are pleased to offer you an opportunity to become a
Partner with Knoxville Christian School. KCS strongly believes that we are
developing children spiritually, emotionally, academically, and physically with
the Lord Jesus Christ as their standard and the Holy Bible as their guide.
Instilling Christian principles such as God first, work ethic, service focused,
and appreciation for authority are just a few of the skills we strive to
    instill.

We are committed to producing students who will be great
employees and who will give back to our community. In the last few years we
have increased our ACT scores to an average of 25, and sent students to schools
such as UTK, UTC, VMI, Dartmouth, Lipscomb, Harding, and Freed-Hardeman.
Currently our student population is around 200, and we strive to be a school of
300 within the next five years. We like our small school because we can work
with students and their families in an effort to bring each student to their
    fullest potential.

One of the first things we are looking to do is to increase
our visibility within the community. We are attempting to visit with the
businesses in this area in an effort to share what is happening at KCS and gain
input as to what our community partners see as needs. We are also looking for
people and businesses to become involved in our school as prayer partners and as
    financial supporters.

The generosity of parents, alumni, grandparents and friends enhances the life of students and faculty every day! There are several ways to give to Knoxville Christian School. Gifts of all sizes and all forms are invaluable to KCS and many gifts have substantial tax benefits for the donor. KCS is a 501c3 Non-Profit organization and all donations are tax deductible according to what is allowed by federal law.
