Meet Paige Singleton, our new K-12 Art Teacher joining the KCS family for the 2026-2027 school year!
Originally from Washington State, Paige will be making a big move to East Tennessee, arriving on July 22 as she begins this exciting new chapter. While moving across the country and starting fresh is a big leap of faith, Paige is looking forward to building relationships, becoming part of the KCS community, and making an impact on the students she teaches.
Finding Her Calling Through Creativity
Paige’s journey to becoming an art educator was not exactly the path she expected. When she began college at Harding University in Arkansas, where both of her parents were alumni, she started as a science major. But early in her freshman year, she realized something was missing.
“I realized I didn’t have time for art anymore, and I missed it,” Paige shared. “That was when I realized how much I cared about art.”
She made the decision to switch her focus and pursue art education, choosing to use her creativity and passion to encourage others. Through that journey, she discovered that teaching was about so much more than creating artwork. It was about helping students discover confidence, express themselves, and find a place where they belong.
Becoming the Teacher She Needed
During her student teaching experience, Paige worked with elementary students at MacRae Elementary and later taught 7th and 8th grade art at Ahlf Junior High.
While she originally thought she would love teaching middle school because art had always been a safe space for her during those years, she quickly learned that working with junior high students brought its own unique joys and challenges.
“My art teacher was always so kind and helped me navigate middle school,” Paige said. “I wanted to pass that on and be that person for the students I teach.”
She found that even the challenging moments became opportunities for growth. Middle school students brought plenty of humor, creativity, and personality into the classroom, and Paige loved learning how to meet students where they were.
A Faith-Filled Step Forward
Paige’s journey to KCS came at just the right time. As she searched for teaching opportunities after graduation, her family was praying for the right door to open. Then Bobby reached out about the KCS opportunity. “It really felt like God sent this role,” Paige shared.
While starting over in a new place without family or longtime friends nearby comes with challenges, Paige is excited about the opportunity to build something new and become part of a Christ-centered community.
One of the biggest lessons she has learned along the way came during student teaching when she faced an unexpected health challenge and spent six days hospitalized during the start of the semester. Falling behind was difficult and discouraging, but Paige saw firsthand the power of encouragement and community.
“Seeing all the people come out of the woodwork to support and encourage us made a huge difference,” she shared. “It reminded me what a community can do to support and uplift you.”
That experience strengthened her appreciation for the kind of community she hopes to find at KCS.
Inspiring Creativity in Every Student
As an artist, Paige loves exploring different mediums, but one of her favorites has been chalk pastel. While it was not always the most comfortable medium for her, it challenged her to think differently and led to some of her most original work. “It forced me to come out of my comfort zone and try something new,” she said.
As she steps into teaching students across all grade levels, Paige is excited about the opportunity to help students grow through every stage of their artistic journey.
Her classroom style blends creativity with structure. She believes students need freedom to explore their own ideas, but they also need guidance and organization to help them succeed.
“Without structure you have chaos,” Paige said. “But there also has to be flexibility to accommodate students’ artistic views and needs.”
Getting to Know Paige
Outside of the art room, Paige enjoys reading science fiction and fantasy books, watching movies, and playing video games. Her current favorite movie is Project Hail Mary, which combines her love of storytelling and science. She also enjoys Minecraft, where she sees creativity in designing, building, and using different shapes and palettes to create something unique.
She is also an animal lover and has enjoyed having a family leopard gecko as a pet, who has been part of the family for many years.
As Paige begins this new adventure, she is excited not only to teach art, but to help students see themselves as creators, problem-solvers, and individuals with something meaningful to share.
