The teacher is expected to:

  • Incorporate a Biblical worldview into classes
  • Teach classes as assigned, demonstrating effectiveness in classroom instruction.
  • Employ instructional aids, methods and materials that will provide for creative, interesting and enthusiastic teaching.
  • Plan long-range, as well as weekly, goals and objectives.
  • Be well prepared for class so that objectives can be accomplished.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and grades.
  • Maintain discipline in the classroom and on school premises to facilitate learning and positive relationships.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Set high academic standards for every student in the class while still adapting to the individual needs of each child.
  • Prepare lesson plans in advance that teach core objectives and principles that are relevant to future education, also showing students how this knowledge is useful in the real world.
  • Teach several different classes of students the rules of grammar, punctuation, spelling and other nuances of the English language.
  • Track and report performance data to determine where changes need to be made and which strategies and methods are working.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to address unique situations or problems with individual students so you can adapt your lesson plans to meet their needs.
  • Develop stable, solid relationships with students with appropriate boundaries so they know you are available to help them when they need it.
  • Promote parent/teacher/student associations and encourage students and their guardians to get involved in the community and in the school.
  • Attend special events held by the school and engage with students and their parents in an appropriate, friendly way.

Job Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English teaching
  • State certification and licensing to be a qualified English teacher, or in process
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including sitting and standing for long periods of time
  • Previous experience teaching English
  • An interest in Theater/Drama a plus
  • Fluent Spanish a plus

Knoxville Christian School has an opening for a High School history/government teacher for the 2025-2026 school year and beyond.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Tennessee teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned

Skills:

  • Knowledge of academic subject area: World History, Geography, US History.
  • Knowledge of teaching theories, skills, and principles
  • Ability to teach, instruct, and lead students in an engaging, cooperative fashion
  • Ability to work in a team and receive coaching in an innovative model
  • Gracious and professional communication with parents
  • Ability to maintain an active and focused classroom

  • Must be a committed Christian who is able to share how God works in your daily life

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Prepare weekly lesson plans and assessments according to Knoxville Christian School’s standards and curriculum.
  • Prepare materials for class instruction.
  • Execute lesson plans, effectively communicate, and competently teach subject matter.
  • Update and maintain grades and attendance on FACTS
  • Work with parents to foster an open, helpful, supportive partner relationship.
  • Maintain a class environment that promotes learning, limits distractions, practices grace, and seeks to honor Jesus.
  • Attend appropriate meetings and events.
  • Model Christ, proclaim the Gospel, and love the students.
  • Participate in required staff training.
  • Work with other members of the staff team to provide a well-balanced, Gospel-oriented, Christian education.

    Ability to teach HS Biology, Physics, Environmental Science, Chemistry, PWC and/or Ecology.
     Some specific subjects taught to be determined by candidate.

    • Plan, deliver and assess effective instruction that is aligned with State standards. Designs lessons based on best practices with clear learning targets and measurable goals aligned with State standards and/or unit outcomes. Conveys high expectations while using multiple effective strategies, materials, and classroom practices that involve and motivate students while differentiating instruction to meet students’ needs, uses colleagues and own self-reflection on instructional practice to continually improve instruction.

    Classroom Management & Relationships: Fosters a well-structured and engaging learning environment by utilizing effective classroom procedures and routines while showing caring, respect, and fairness for all students.

    Family Community: Consistently develops strong relationships with students’ families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and/or concerns about their children. Provides opportunities for parents to be involved in their children’s learning.

    Professional Responsibilities: Actively seeks out opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and other stakeholders in order to improve teaching & learning. Reflects on own instruction and leadership while contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school.
